I’m a fan of pesticide free and organic fruits and vegetables and I always recommend those as a first option. Unfortunately, due to their cost they are not available to everybody. Therefore, the next best option is to find ways to reduce pesticides from non-organic produces.
How to do this?
Peeling
Peeling vegetables and fruits is an efficient way to remove pesticides and other chemicals from them. way for reducing the amount of chemical residue on your fresh food. Of course, this is only suitable for some produces but it’s worth doing it when using the appropriate food such as: butternut squash, courgettes, aubergines, apples and pears.
You can also peel the outer parts of salads and cabbages.
Washing
Here’s how to go about to wash your fruits and vegetables and reduce pesticides:
- Pour 4 parts of water and 1 part of apple cider vinegar in a bowl or sink.
- Place the foods that you want to clean in the water and let them soak for 20 minutes.
- rinse them, dry them, set aside or eat them 🙂
- This process also work if you want to reduce the wax from your foods.
Where possible I would suggest to buy organic as studies show that there is less allergies and obesity in populations using organic food.
